In 2023, some pals and I ran a fundraiser for Debbie and the treatment of her Metastatic Osteosarcoma (primary bone cancer).

The b*stard had spread from her bones to her lungs, so she needed to look for alternative therapies that the NHS, sadly, couldn’t do themselves.

@elissabreathes It was a fringe business event on the Thursday night (before it officially started). Did a 20 minute talk alongside a bunch of business geniuses (inc. reps from Finisterre, ex-Nike, and ex-Tommy Hilfiger). Then we had a panel interview at the end. So it wasn’t a workshop.

Apparently they’re looking to do another in Manchester…

I’ve found that when I hit targets, I’m less inclined to review and adapt and learn new ways to improve than if things don’t go as I planned. So THAT is a win in itself: the external push to evolve.

But might be an idea to have a boobie prize, in case you miss your targets (so you’ll avoid feeling totally deflated, hyper aware you’re poorer than you could be, and coveting the sunshine). Out of the 15 designers I’ve interviewed, average time spent on clients’ copy is 4 hours. Average # clients per year is 8. That’s potential of 32 hours saved per year (basically a whole working week for you complete a new project. Or take a week’s holiday…)

You need to off-set price with additional value that is worth MORE than the additional pounds spent. I wouldn’t go with “why we’re more expensive”. I’d lead with highlighting your differentiators + position the vale of your brand versus the competition (which implies that’s why you’re more expensive). Hope that helps, Johanna xx
